I read these because I am a Tom Hanks fan more than a Dan Brown fan. That being said, you get what you expect. Predictability.

If you're looking for a read that is not challenging, then this is it. Sit back and just be entertained.

Review: Don't Let Go

Don't Let Go by Harlan Coben

I had been anxiously waiting this release and all I can say is that Harlan Coben does it again ladies and gentlemen!

The lead, Nap Dumas, deals with loss, real emotion and mystery to uncover the real truth of what happened to his twin fifteen years ago. Harlan Coben draws out the suspense and puts you in the midst of this small town tragedy. Even though I suspected the ending about 3/4 of the way in, I enjoyed reading how it unfolded. I was thrilled with the cameo of our much loved Myron.

I am never disappointed with this master of his craft!

Review: The Snowman

The Snowman by Jo Nesbø

I read this so that I could slag the movie....KIDDING!

I did want to read it before the movie release. I enjoyed it but couldn't picture Michael Fassbender (swoon!) as Harry Hole and that is the main reason i might enjoy the movie more!

It did lack the urgency of other serial killer novels but that is not a bad thing. I suspect this is a more realistic pace of an actual investigation. I look forward to reading more from Jo Nesbo.

Review: The Ministry of Utmost Happiness

I loved her lyrical prose and nuance, however, now that I have completed this tome, I must admit I felt the story line came up short.

I thoroughly dislike the luke-warm response this has elicited in me. I have never read 'The God of Small Things' and I hope it lives up to it's hype. Though it's on my book-bucket list to read, I am not keen to start it immediately.

Calling all fans of ANGEL, BTVS, SUPERNATURAL, GRIMM or anything spooky!

This novel has flavor!

Add a colorful city, rich local folklore and superstitions, a drunk sarcastic dog, some supernaturals, a dead boss and an occult detective and what do you get? The immensely enjoyable POISON CITY.

Paul Crilley spoke to my inner geek with his hilarious debut novel, following London Tau, his alcoholic spirit guide, Dog and his once dead, now resurrected boss, Armitage, as they hunt down the latest threat to the balance between the the "day" and "night" sides. The dark side, which is inhabited by African folk creatures, the fay, spirits and creatures of the occult; and day, blissfully ignorant humans.

After uncovering a few clues at what seemed like a routine murder case of a vampire, London finds a link between his case and the murderer of his young child. A person who has never been brought to justice. He is faced with solving the crime and keeping the peace or, catching the killer of his beloved daughter. He faces demons of his own as he's not sure which to do!

As a native Durbanite, I devoured his descriptions of my city and can admire his skill to make both the good and the bad rich in character!
All in all, this was a most fun read.

I am a super-fan of Dog!
